About this deal

It exhibits a little bit of optical vignetting, so you can get a bit of swirl at the right distances, and the shape of the Christmas…sorry…bokeh balls will look a bit more cat-eyed towards the edges of the frames. I didn't have my LEICA SUMMMILUX-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH handy for a direct comparison, but as I recall this TTArtisan lens is about the same. Speaking of the aperture, this lens has 10 aperture blades. They’re double curved, looking a little like the Summilux 50mm f/1.4 aperture blades. It makes for nice looking bokeh even stopped down, but around f/2.8-5.6 the out of focus areas will sometimes have a bit of uneven edges on the specular highlights. Fujifilm offers several different lenses that cover the 50mm focal length. To name just a few, there are the XF 50mm f/1, XF 50mm f/2, XF 16-55mm f/2.8, XF 50-140mm f/2.8, and the list goes on. It’s been said that Fujifilm doesn’t really make a bad lens, and I believe that is true. Even the XC series lenses have good quality optics. This is Sony’s idea of a modern compact 50mm lens. The optical qualities are generally better (especially flare resistance and Coma correction), you get AF and very nice build quality. The price is a bit staggering considering the specifications though, but sometimes you can find this lens heavily discounted which makes it more attractive.

Workshops/ Photowalks Mailing List– Sign up to receive info on future events specific to your city/ country/ interest rather than LEICA-standard 46mm filters. The only LEICA lenses that take 49mm filters are the current APO 75/2, the 1980-1998 90/2 and the current APO 135/3.4. This means for Shooting Film you'll need to carry another set of filters in this 49mm size since you won't be able to use your 46mm set that fit pretty much every other LEICA lens.Focus on my LEICA M9 at f1.4 was surprisingly accurate at all distances, and the infinity stop was perfectly calibrated. I did not focus on the edges here, I focused on the center, but you can see the edges do fall out of focus. This chart is across the room from my camera. Overall the Rokinon 50mm f1.2 and the Fujinon 56mm f1.2 are vastly superior when it comes to having the flat field curvature with sharpness in the corners and edges. The Rokinon 50mm f1.2 or Fujinon 56mm f1.2 will be the better lens for those that need to shoot wide open with good center to corner sharpness. There is a little bit of vignetting wide open, but not too much. I would say about 1/3 exposure stop. It goes away at f/2. It is to be expected, so no surprises there.

One advantage of using L mount cameras + TTArtisan 50mm f0.95 lens is you can use the 7Artisans close focus Leica M-L adapter. This lets you get in closer than the standard 0.7m minimum focus distance (perhaps to 0.3m). This adapter is also fantastic when used with vintage rangefinder lenses that are limited to 1m close focus distance. TTArtisan 50mm f0.95 + Leica SL + 7Artisans M-L close focus adapter I will only cover the really obvious alternatives in detail here, but you can always have a look at our Guide to 50mm lenses for Sony E-mount to get an idea of what the options are. This TTArtisan 50mm f/1.4 ASPH is a superbly well-made lens, and it's sharper than my LEICA SUMMILUX 50mm f/1.4! The TTArtisan 50mm 2.0 is a lens I didn’t even think was possible. At home I have a shelve with some old (mostly broken) analogue cameras and among those is a Nikon FE with a Series E 50mm 1.8 lens. I sometimes look at that lens thinking “for SLR cameras such small yet fast 50mm lenses were possible, too bad this isn’t the case for mirrorless cameras anymore because of the missing mirror box”. pixel (4.3× magnification) crop from above. bigger or full resolution JPG image from DNG data processed in Apple Aperture 3.6.

Likewise ignore the crazy halo circle effect at f/1.4. I've only seen that in this one image, and it's a chance hitting of some internal part that led to this big reflective flare circle. The bokeh quantity will not break any records of course, but we get mostly even (thanks to low optical vignetting) and undistracting bokeh without onion rings – thanks to the absence of aspherical elements. In the forest or at night the strong Coma in the corners can be a bit distracting though.I felt like getting 90% of the Voigtlander 50mm 1.2‘s qualities for about 40% of the price. Not a bad deal in my book. TTArtisan 50mm 1.4 on Leica M10 I was surprised by its particular unusual Bokeh balls (star shaped) as of F2 that give to this lens its own signature For Nikon Z, get the AF-S 50mm f/1.4G or AF-S 50/1.8G on an FTZ adapter, or the Z 50/1.8 or Z 50/1.2.

Pluses are build quality, sharpness, separation, bokeh, color rendering and creamy rendering of nostalgic subjects. With the Sigma 56mm I also managed to get closer, thanks to its narrower FoV. (Minimum focusing distance is the same at 50cm). Regardless the TT 50 1.2 seems like a great build for a very reasonable price. Thanks again for sharing your impressions. If you find you really like this focal length, the Fujifilm XF 50mm f/2 R WR may be the next step, or upgrade, in your photography gear journey. A big reason this lens is nice is the crisp sharpness, none of that ghosting when wide open. This photo here was heavily cropped down to 14MP shot at f1.2 while a passenger in a car. But the lens is still sharp enough and the details still hold up. If this 1,200×900 pixel crop is about 6" (15cm) wide on your screen, the complete image would print at 17⅓×26" (44×66 cm) at this same magnification.
