The music comes housed in a rigid board slipcase and also features a 4,000-word essay by Daryl Easlea. It has been remastered by long-term Fall engineer Andy Pearce. With Paul Hanley's temporary replacement Steve "cowbell" Davies on drums; makes for an odd listening experience. Paul had to stay home to take his O-levels. My memories of the tour were that my sister’s band Pel Mel supported at least on the Sydney dates. I saw the Musos Club date, Stranded and also at least one of the Trade Union nights. I think the other date (the missing one) was in the suburbs – possibly Bexley Hotel which Ken used to use sometimes. City Show wasn’t a venue – it would have meant an unbooked show they were counting on in the city. Good evening, we are The Fall. We are not as the poster indicates. It's a change of turn, a different turn on, at first." (during "Cash'n'Carry") So he fled to the country. So he fled to the country. So he fled to the country. So he fled to the country." (amended lyrics to "I Feel Voxish", ushering in "Hard Life in Country")In November 1980, the Fall released their third full-length album Grotesque (After the Gramme). Preceded by a couple of acclaimed singles "How I Wrote 'Elastic Man'" and " Totally Wired", the album went to #1 on the UK Indie Chart. It was co-produced by Rough Trade's Geoff Travis and Mayo Thompson of Red Krayola and showed a significant improvement in production, which was to continue throughout the period. Smith, however, was unhappy with Rough Trade's politics, which showed when Slates came out in April 1981. Intentionally made too long for a single and too short to be considered an album, it was released as a 10" EP for a price of just 2 pounds. The Fall eventually quit Rough Trade by the end of the year, and instead signed with a small indie label Kamera.

The next number is for the Bury Times Midweeker who said we were repulsive but I don't have to shove five of my records through one letter box." (before "Mere Pseud Mag Ed")

A request (...) to a Fall gig." [In daft falsetto] "There's only six seconds." (before "Just Step Sideways") In January 2005, the Fall were the subject of a BBC Four TV documentary, The Fall: The Wonderful and Frightening World of Mark E Smith. Their twenty-fifth studio album, entitled Fall Heads Roll, was issued on 3 October 2005. The guitarist, bassist, and drummer all left the group acrimoniously during the US summer 2006 tour after just four dates. In a US radio interview, Smith described their departures as "the best thing that ever happened" to the Fall, although it was some months before he confirmed that they would not be returning. Great photos on This Is Then, thanks to Mark Osborne, whose review appeared in Issue #17 of Alternative Sounds (thanks to Dannyno for sending it in). a b c d "Chart Log UK: Adam F – FYA".
